Our people become uneducated in accepting culture – Haghtanak Shahumyan

We are living in times when culture stopped playing important role in the life of the people and it is not about material problems and difficulties as the culture in Armenia during the war, artist Haghtanak Shahumyan told the reporters today.

In his words after the collapse of the USSR, after the change of the political system the culture failed to adopt to new conditions.

According to Shahumyan, everything is agreed with the system of education. In his words the students of 70-80s were more educated in the acceptance and understanding of art as children were taught painting and singing from kinder-gartens. “They must not necessarily become artists or singers, the important thing was the created atmosphere. The love towards art was injected from early age. While today you do not know where the education system takes today,” he said, adding that the Armenian society has become uneducated in the acceptance of culture.
